Monkey Preschool Lunchbox iPhone/iTouch App

by admin on May 29, 2010

I have to say, this is the BEST preschool app I’ve come across yet.  It holds my preschooler’s attention for very long periods of time and I do feel like she’s learning. I honestly don’t have any guilt letting her play this, at reasonable times. She masterd the ABC’s (thanks partially to another app) and can count reasonably well.  Monkey Preschool Lunchbox helps with these things too but goes a step further.  It has a few more advanced activites that also help her with coordination.  She has to drag puzzle pieces with her fingers onto the puzzle outline of a banana, apple, etc.  She’d never been good at puzzles.  There’s something about doing it on a screen that makes it easier for her.  Maybe it’s the day and age.

I also like that it has a “memory game” component.  She taps on cards to find matching fruits, etc.  Playing memory with real cards always ends up in a mess.  I’m astounded that she remembers which card to flip over much better than I can.

The animated monkey guides kids along and after each game the kids get right, they can select a sticker.  There are six types of games they can play in total, with each game floating right into the next without interrpution.

The downside is that since there the app runs a sequence of different activities. So if there’s one you or your preschooler likes inparticular, you can’t go back to it.  The app will circle around.  This has not been a problem for us, however.

This app is appropriate for kids aged 2-5 and costs $.99 at the iTunes store.  Try it!
